Here is the simplest way I have found to order your free annual credit report. I have included step by step instructions on how to do it.
The only site you should be using when ordering your free report should be https://www.annualcreditreport.com
Don’t go through any other sites that may have a mix of these words or other popular phrases. This is the site that was set up for us to order our reports from the three major credit bureaus.
I chose to order all reports this way for a few reasons:
- It takes some time (45 mins. – 1 hour) to order all three reports using their online applications. (who has the time?)
- This way is much simpler especially if you are short on time or are not that great with dealing with online issues that may come up.
- There is no real help if you run into trouble in the middle of the process, then you either have to start again and/or lose the information you have already input.
- You have to go through the process three separate times (one for each bureau) which can get confusing and tedious.
- There is something being sold on almost every other page by one of the bureaus (do you want to buy this?, Do you want to sign up for that?)
- You have to find the links that answers NO to the purchase of something they want you to buy. (I swear they do this on purpose so if you are not paying attention, you end up buying something without even knowing it)
If you decide that you would rather go though the online application process and find it difficult or tedious (as previously mentioned) and would like to do something about it. Watch this video and feel free to leave questions, comments or suggestions. Who knows, if enough of us complain about the process, they may end up changing it to better serve our needs. (fingers crossed)

What an awesome post! I recently got scammed by the imitation company and got jipped for money. It was very annoying. I wish I’d seen this long before! I definitely agree with you that going the long route is the most dependable way to get these. Solid financial advice!

Like myself I’d be willing to say that most people don’t know which is the best sight to get their free credit report from. In fact there’s probably too many that aren’t even aware that they can do this for free. Thanks for illustrating this for us.
