What I learned about blogging in 2010.
It’s been a year since I really started to blog and I can tell you I have really gone through some ups and downs.
In this post I am going to try and recap a few of the most important things learned throughout this year.

1. Keep your focus
This year, I suffered from wanting my blog to be all things to all people. I started covering issues on personal finance and as I learned more about social media and internet marketing, I began blogging about those subjects also.
There are a couple of potential problems with this.
One problem is that unless you have a “personal” blog where you just talk about whatever comes to mind. Starting your blog on
one note and gently (or abruptly) morphing it into something else may confuse your followers. I am guilty of this very
thing. Although I started my blog out as a hobby, I also wanted to talk about finances, money and credit.
I got so excited about the world of social media and internet marketing that I started talking about that also.
The issue is that I took my eye off the ball, so to speak and I weaned off of writing about finances (which was my core subject).
Don’t get me wrong, blogging about these subjects is fine, It’s just not the way I started my blog.
To make a long story short, it confused me more than it confused anybody else!
This leads me to my second reason. I thankfully, survived the morphing and changes and patches of inactivity
that happened throughout the year but many of my colleagues did not.
I met a lot of people in the blogging community last year and many of them are no longer blogging. I know
for a fact that it was because of information overload.
They wanted to do every program and every technique that was out there. Here’s a tip, nobody can do everything that is out there!
Unless you have a team of people all working on different strategies for you and your blog/business, you must work on what is within your grasp. Unless of course you are superwoman like my friend Kim Castleberry, but that is another subject altogether.
The better way to do this would build off the knowledge gained by one technique and move onto the next. Trying everything at once is just too taxing.
That being said, I have re-focused back to my core subject! www.myfinancialrehab.com is that focus. I will also talk about many subjects here but it is all within a clearly defined plan.
THERE IS A METHOD TO MY MADNESS Hahahahahahahaha!!
ANYWAY…
2. A Tribe/community is essential.
You can’t even begin to imagine how much I don’t know about “computer stuff” I have ran into so many obstacles that I would have never gotten through if it was not for the amazing people that I met this year.
I have only been a member of one group this year and I have been able to leverage the great people and their vast amounts of cumulative knowledge for my benefit.
Like any relationship, there is always a give and take, I give some love they give some love back. I have met some really interesting people and definitely
look forward to sharing with these folks as my internet career continues to grow.
I’ll put it this way, if you don’t have a tribe on your side, you are in for a heck of a hard time getting attention or traffic to your site this concept has been priceless and I would not trade it in for… well, I just wouldn’t trade it in.
I don’t want to name names because I am sure I am going to forget someone and they all deserve a mention.
If you want to know some of these people, take a tour of my blog comments and you will quickly see who some of the regulars are.
This will give you a good idea of who have been my biggest supporters throughout the year.
If you would like to look into a tribe and/or blogging support group go to:
To my tribe: I THANK YOU ALL, HAVE A GREAT NEW YEAR!!!

3. Learn from your Experience
Third and maybe most important, I learned about myself and I got closer to knowing what I want out of my business and my life.
This is probably one of the most important lessons anyone can learn. With each project that you pour yourself into, you learn a little bit more about yourself
and what you want. My New blog www.myfinancialrehab.com/blog has gotten me that much closer to where I want to be.
I am changing this blog format to be more loosey goosey and just a place for me to share my thoughts, opinions and (sometimes unique) points of view. I probably won’t do that for a while.
www.myfinancialrehab.com/blog is where I will be dedicating the bulk of my time this coming year.
I would really love to see you over there.
Thanks for sticking with me throughout this year and I hope to see you soon.
Let’s make 2011 a Year to remember!
