I read today that the State began issuing additional unemployment checks to those whose benefits had expired.
On April 29, 2009 a bill was passed that authorized the Agency for Workforce Innovation to begin paying Extended Unemployment Compensation Benefits to those who qualify. Previously unemployment claims averaged 26 weeks. Now some residents are able to claim an extra 53 weeks of benefits. THAT IS HUGE.
I told you it was good news.
You can find a list of FAQ’s that include basic eligibility requirements at www.floridajobs.org
Close to the top of the page is a section called “Quick Links” click on extended benefits and it takes you to a page that has a few options for applying, etc.
I hope this information is useful and helps someone in need, Feel free to contact me and let me know if it helped.
Best Wishes

What about for those who have reached the 26 weeks plus the 53 weeks a total of 79 weeks which is about to run out. And still is hard to find a job.

This is where I would say there is still a problem. But I think by that time someone may be able to obtain training in something different and gotten a job in something that may be hiring right now. Taken a pay cut or even relocated to somewhere where there may be some opportunity. Either way, there is no perfect system. Sorry to hear about that.
